Group by Color

Grouping items by similar color can be visually appealing and can help you more quickly identify the items you’re looking for. The rainbow color order (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) is something everyone knows and it is pleasing to the eye. Start by organizing your items using the rainbow order and go from there. You might find that you don’t have items for each of the specific colors and that’s okay. Using the rainbow order will be a great starting point and also a way to easily keep track of your progress. Set an amount of time to tackle each color and then stop for a break or for the day when each of the color grouping is completed. 

Group by Category

A quick way to organize is by grouping together items by category. For example, in your pantry, group all of your baking items together - flour, sugar, baking powder, etc. In your closet, group your dress shoes together and your sneakers in a separate group. Organizing by category is another way to make it easier for you to identify the items you need and also identify where items need to be returned to after each use.  To get started, pick one category to work with first and complete. If you have more time after that, continue on to organizing another category. 

Use Matching Organizers

This tip might involve purchasing new items for your home but it will be worth it. Similar to organizing items by color, using matching organizers can really help make your space feel more open and organized. Hangers, boxes, bins, cubbies, shelves, and jars are just some of the many examples of products available to help you organize your items at home. To get started, try using all clear jars for your pantry goods. For your closet, upgrade to matching non-slip or wood hangers.
